Hundreds of developing world activists gathered Wednesday in this cotton-producing Malian town for a Forum of the People, keeping a close eye on Scotland where the world’s top industrialized nations were getting set to discuss remedies for Africa’s chronic poverty.
"It is time to put pressure on the G8 because they have broken too many promises in the last several years," CAD-Mali president Barry Aminata Toure said in a keynote address greeted by thunderous applause from the crowd.
