"NEPAD (the new economic partnership for African development) acronym is a misnomer — it really stands for ’do not develop’," said Malian jurist Mohamed Tamboura, in a French re-translation of the English-language acronym for the four-year-old program.
NEPAD has "yet to engage African populations and has today been tucked away," he said.
"We must rethink development on our continent, and allow the people their voice, for they alone know what they want."
